My husband and I were into our third year of marriage when we moved from Florida to Nebraska. Being an avid outdoorsman, one of my husband's dreams was to make a trek west ones we got settled and able to take a vacation. Everything was new to me, so I was very enthusiastic about trying and experiencing everything. We arrived in Nebraska in January and made plans to trek west sometime in the summer. July finally arrived. We packed our two-man tent (the only thing we could afford at the time) and all the other stuff we needed for the trip. We left Omaha very early in the morning and stopped for the night at a motel once before arriving in Yellowstone. It was a gorgeous day when we first arrived there, but the weather changed dramatically late in the afternoon. Thunder and lightning lent their ominous sound and spectacular light shows in the sky, followed by a torrential rain. In the evening, the temp. dipped below freezing, which we were not prepared for. Our light-weight tent isn't made for that weather (we found out the hard way). We froze all night long. Body heat came in very handy, though (lol). In the morning when we woke up, we were greeted with lots of snow on the ground, and it was still snowing. Needless to say, we didn't get to roast any marshmallows in the campfire. (No campfire, for that matter.) However, this is still the most memorable camping experience for me because it was my first time, and because we were subjected to all kinds of inclement weather situations all in the same trip. Now that we live here in the west, from this experience, it taught us to be ready for all kinds of weather/ climate situations whenever we go camping or going on trips up to the mountains, no matter if it's in the middle of the summer.tashabudhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17707659728810975773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20823480.post-80189016824624458192008-05-12T12:49:00.000-04:002008-05-12T12:49:00.000-04:00I didn't do anything LOL. I'm not sure they were ever on a camping trip with us, except maybe on the radio.Henson Rayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02488179170722007018noreply@blogger.com
